Praising Tianjin’s efforts and achievements in intelligent sc
ience and technology, Liu Chuanzhi, board chairman of Legend Holdings Co Ltd, pred
icted the city will make a qualitative leap in two to three years by combining intelligent technologies with manufacturing.
Liu, also founder of Chinese computer giant Lenovo, said his company, like Tianjin, considers intelligent technology a new imp
etus. Lenovo is working on many intelligent applications and has invested in many high-tech ma
nufacturing enterprises. It uses various artificial intelligence-driven algorithms and machine learning to ana
lyze the data of its supply chain system, using it to optimize Lenovo’s new intelligent spare parts supply chain.
Liu Qingfeng, chairman and CEO of iFlytek, said the company has developed a series o
f products driven by AI applications, based on small samples over the past year.
The company’s latest technological breakthrough is for the first tim
e its machine has surpassed humans in English reading comprehension, Liu said.
He said that he believes AI in 2019 has entered the year of large-scale application.

ures are consistent with the top-line measured GDP growth number. For example, production and
supply of electricity, thermal power, gas and water increased by 7.1 percent in the quarter. Pl
us, value-added index of transport, storage and post increased by 7.3 percent.
A closer look at the highest growth sectors shows that the economy is moving toward the long-term goal of shif
ting away from a development strategy based on heavy investment in industry and
infrastructure to one based on services and domestic consumption. Also, more productive industries that tur
n out higher-value added goods are growing at a much faster rate than traditional heavy industry.
Among large companies, State-owned enterprises grew 4.5 percent yea
r-on-year while shareholding enterprises grew almost twice as fast, at 7.8 percent. So, stro
ng progress is being made toward the goal of promoting private enterprise, which was re
inforced by many policies announced at last month’s meeting of the National People’s Congress.
China’s customs officers have seized 2,748 ivory tusks weighing a combined 7.48 metric tons after cracking a major smuggling case.
It was the biggest haul of tusks ever recorded in an anti-smuggling bust conducted in
dependently by customs officers, the General Administration of Customs said on Monday.
The case was solved in March after a combined operation of differ
ent customs offices lasting three months. A total of 238 custo
ms officers took part from cities around the country, including Hefei, Nanjing, Beijing, Fuzhou and Qingdao.
Twenty suspects were detained for further investigation, accor
ding to Sun Zhijie, director of the administration’s anti-smuggling bureau.
Sun said the tusks, illegally shipped from African countries, were imported into China labeled as wood.
-border online shopping in China grew by 20.6 percent year-on-year to 7.6 trillion yuan ($1.1 trillion) in sales in 2017.
The nation is encouraging cross-border e-commerce transactions by easing the annual cap
on cross-border online purchases and adding categories of imports to the duty-free list, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Starting from this year, the annual duty-free quota for cross-borde
r e-commerce purchases for individual buyers will be lifted to 26,000 yuan from the current 20,000 yuan.
“The livestreaming form, as a new operation model for online marketplaces, could settle
the problem of information asymmetry,” said Chen Tao, an analyst with internet consultancy Analysys in Beijing.
Both Alibaba Group Holding Ltd’s Taobao and its rival J
D, two of China’s biggest online shopping sites, have launched their own livestreaming platforms.
Shop owners hire livestreamers with large fan bases to help promote their products, and meanwhile, a link to the purchasing page hovers on the streaming screen.
Monica Zhang, who lives in France with her husband, opened an online store on Taobao. She became a livestreamer last year.
William, Kate, Meghan and Harry attend at the Church of St Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham estate on December 25, 2018.
”It’s just clickbait,” a source close to both duchesses told CNN.
The pressure to produce ever more dramatic headlines to drive traffic is intense, perhaps even more so when it comes to Meghan than when Kate Mi
ddleton entered the royal family. Back then, the running theme was how Kate came from working-class roots.
So, is there any truth to the rift? The duchesses were in their 30s when they met, and already had their own esta
blished, close-knit groups of friends. And while the pair may not hang out together or call each other regularly, the so
urce tells CNN, they are friendly and they text one another — linked as they are by a common bond.
The alleged rift has also been cited as the reasons Meghan and Harry
are moving out of Kensington Palace and plan to establish their own office. But CNN’s sou
rce said this is more to do with Harry wanting greater independence, and William needing his own team in pre
paration for so-called “reign change,” when Charles will become King and William will step up as the Prince of Wales.
